How to Choose a Reputable Courier

If you are looking for courier services for your company, the numerous options available can be overwhelming.  However, if you follow these tips, you will be able to find the one that best meets your needs.

You will need to do some research to see which courier services are available in your areas of operation.  Once you have located a few different options, take the time to find out their ratings among other businesses, and check out any customer reviews you can find.  If there are any with low ratings, or unhappy customers, remove them from your list immediately.

What Services Do They Offer?

Find out whether the service provides only one delivery per day, or if they offer multiple pickups and deliveries.  You should also find out if they offer rush or emergency services, and weekend options if you need them.  The key is to find a service that is available whenever you might need it, even if that includes odd or overnight hours.

Package Options

Determine whether the courier service can handle the package sizes you may have to use.  If you frequently have large pickups and deliveries, make sure the company you choose can handle them mo matter what time of day you need – there is nothing worse than a customer receiving partial deliveries of the same order.

Verify Insurance

You want to choose courier services that will provide you with protection for your packages.  If you cannot find this information on their website, make sure to verify it with them.  You should also ask for proof of insurance to make sure the company actually has the insurance or bonding that they claim.

Find out whether the company charges flat rates for different services, and verify what additional charges you might have to pay for emergency shipments or mid-route changes.  A low flat rate may not include all of the charges the company may charge.

Get Estimates

Once you have found companies that offer the courier services you need, ask for estimates from each of them.  Request that they include all extra charges, as well as references if available.  This will allow you to verify any potential charges you might incur on top of the normal pickup and delivery fees, as well as direct information from current customers to see whether the courier actually provides the services that they claim.
